(“Generali Spain”) (trading in Ireland as RedClick) of its Irish property and motor insurance business to Zurich Insurance Europe AG, Ireland Branch (“Zurich Ireland”), subject to regulatory approval (the transfer).

This webpage provides brokers with information on the transfer and is intended to support you by outlining key information relating to how the transaction will impact customers.  It also provides answers to questions that your customers may have when they receive a communication from RedClick advising them of the transfer (the communication).  These questions include the reasons for the communication, anticipated timelines, impacts on policies and claims, data protection considerations.

The aim is to ensure that you, our brokers, understand the impact of the transfer and that we provide you with clear, consistent and accurate information throughout the transfer process so that you are then able to reassure and support any impacted broker customers.

Transfer Process FAQs

Generali Spain has agreed to sell its property and motor insurance business (which trades as RedClick in Ireland) to Zurich Ireland), subject to regulatory approval.

Generali España de Seguros y Reaseguros, S.A (“Generali Spain”) (trading in Ireland as RedClick) is an insurance company headquartered in Madrid, Spain and subject to group supervision by the Directorate-General for Insurance and Pension Funds. It operates in the Ireland through a branch registered in Ireland, which is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland ("CBI").

Zurich Ireland is part of the Zurich Insurance Group. Zurich has supported customers in Ireland for more than 75 years and has over 1,000 employees across its Irish operations.

Zurich Ireland is a registered branch of Zurich Insurance Europe AG (ZIE AG). ZIE AG is a German stock corporation incorporated in Germany and is authorised and regulated by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht), (the German Regulator). Zurich Ireland is also regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) for consumer protection rules.

The transfer will be carried out by way of a Spanish portfolio transfer in accordance with Article 100.4 of Spanish Royal Decree 1060/2015. As Generali Spain is a Spanish company, the transfer requires authorisation by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business. As part of that process, the Spanish Directorate-General for Insurance and Pension Funds (the Spanish Regulator) is engaging with the CBI and the German Regulator.

The transfer will become effective upon execution of a public deed before a Spanish notary formalising the transfer. This will take place on the transfer date, which is expected to occur on or around [30 December 2026] (the transfer date).

On the transfer date, your customer’s policy (and any outstanding claim) will automatically transfer to Zurich Ireland.

No. While the transfer is expected to occur on or around 30 December 2026 (the transfer date), it remains subject to Spanish regulatory approval. The transfer may take place before or after this date. RedClick brokers will be informed of the exact date in advance of the transfer. The transaction has already been reported in the media in Ireland in March 2026, which is when the initial agreement was reached between Zurich and Generali.

Explain that the transfer is subject to regulatory approval by the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business.

The transfer is therefore not guaranteed until the necessary regulatory approval process has been successfully completed.

The transfer has already been approved by the Irish Competition and Consumer Protection Commission for anti-trust purposes (i.e. merger control) in Ireland; however, the Spanish regulatory approval is required before any transfer can be completed.

If the transfer is not approved, it will not become effective. Your customer’s policy and any outstanding claim will not transfer to Zurich Ireland on the expected transfer date and will remain with Generali Spain.

There will be no impact on existing policyholders of Zurich Ireland, nor will arrangements for such policies change as a result of the transfer.
